Your weekend guide Andrew Bloomfield was born and bred on the Holkham Estate and in the summer months works as a warden there. In addition to being the author of "Birds of the Holkham Area" (published in 1993) and contributing articles to Birding World, British Birds, Birdwatch & The Norfolk Bird Report, Andrew has traveled to 23 countries in his quest for birds and has a wealth of field experience but his passion in life remains being out and about in his home county in search of birds and wildlife studying local population trends and bird behaviour as well a searching for his own rarities.

The great thing about North Norfolk is that within a relatively small area habitats such as salt marshes, fresh water grazing marshes , sandy beaches, coastal sand dunes, mixed woodland, open farmland, historic parkland and ancient heaths can be explored.

Waxwing feeding

This wide variety of habitat affords you a diversity of bird life and makes the area one of the UK's richest all year round destinations for birds.

The main sites visited on our walks are likely to be the RSPB's reserves at Titchwell and Snettisham, Norfolk Wildlife Trust reserves at Cley and Holme, Holkham NNR managed by Natural England, National Trust reserves such as Blakeney Point and Stiffkey-Morston marshes as well as with the local knowledge of your guide, many other smaller, lesser known sites
